With the recent surge in Covid cases, the following preventive measures have been implemented by the Ministry of Health on travellers from overseas entering Sri Lanka, irrespective of the travellers’ COVID vaccination status, which will be in effect from 11th of May 2021 to 31st May 2021.
1. Mandatory Quarantine
People entering Sri Lanka are subject to a fourteen-day mandatory quarantine period at a hotel for quarantine/quarantine centre/safe and certified Level 1 hotel.
- All travellers including Sri Lankans identified in letter No. DGHS/COVId-19/347/2021 dated 06.06.2021.
- All Sri Lankan staff members holding Diplomatic/UN/Official passports and their families identified in letter No. DGHS/COVID-19/347/2021 dated 12.04.2021.
- All foreign national staff members holding Diplomatic/UN/Official passports and their families identified in letter No. DGHS/COVID-19/347/2021 dated 12.04.2021.
- All officials identified in letter No. DGHS/COVID-19/347/2021 dated 13.04.2021.
The quarantine period of a person will be extended if they are identified as an immediate close contact of a person who has tested positive for COVID.
2. COVID PCR testing
- All travellers aged twelve and above must undergo PCR testing on day one, and days eleven to fourteen.
- If all the PCR tests are negative, travellers will be released after completing fourteen days of quarantine.
- Children below two years are exempted from all PCR testing.
- Children above two years and below twelve are exempted from PCR testing on day one but must test negative for days eleven to fourteen to be released from quarantine.
These measures are effective until 31st May 2021 and will be revised accordingly.
