HISTORY
Richard Francis de Saram left the family firm of F.J. & R.F. de Saram started by his father F.J. de Saram in 1841 and set up his own practice in 1901 as R.F. de Saram. His brother George became Partner of his former firm which then became F.J & G. de Saram.
R. F. de Saram’s son, Douglas joined him and later, on the death of R.F. de Saram, Douglas and his brother Fred renamed the firm as D.L. and F. de Saram.
Midway in the twentieth century Fred De Saram’s four sons were all partners of the firm. These included Col. F C De Saram, F J “Coo” De Saram (who carried on the tradition of the F J name in honour of the founder of the first De Saram firm), Robert De Saram and Maurice De Saram, who died young tragically in a hunting accident. Clifford Trevor De Saram, a nephew of both Douglas and Fred de Saram was also associated with the firm as D L & F De Saram flourished as one of the leading family practices in the country.
Today this tradition continues, and of the present partners Michael Sproule and Dijen De Saram are grandsons of Fred De Saram, while Savantha De Saram and Prabash De Saram are his great grandsons.
The integrity and industry of the De Saram law practice that began in 1841 with F J De Saram (snr.) has endured at D L & F De Saram. It is a firm that is conscious of its heritage, yet not burdened by tradition. More importantly, D L & F De Saram includes a legal team of partners and associates that provide personal attention to the needs of clients, be it civil or commercial law.
